The September gales relented for the weekend to give members a truly interesting cruise to Fowey.
Some 14 boats set out; the winds earlier in the month which were so strong, were frustratingly light and variable, but at least from the North. A relatively slow trip giving those motor boaters, Alan Nichols and Iain and Diana Oag, time for a leisurely breakfast (and lunch) before leaving to join us. They passed us in a rain squall with windscreen wipers going. “Wave and look as though we’re enjoying ourselves” seemed to be the consistent instruction on the sailing yachts they passed!
I’m afraid there are no pictures of the pontoon party, as due to inclement weather everyone repaired to Prima (a new boat record of 23 people on board) but the rain let up to allow every one ashore in good order.
Our thanks to Royal Fowey who hosted the party of 34. We were delighted to be joined by new members Wendy and Craig McGuiness and Anne and Mark Weaver together with some of the clubs longest members in Ewen Southby Tailyour and Peter Seldon. A very entertaining evening with the added bonus of a dry return to our yachts.
