RWYC cadets take over Roadford Lake!
The cadets spent the weekend of the 27th/28th June at Roadford Reservoir near Launceston where they spent time working on their sailing skills. The weekend started on Friday with volunteers helping to de-rig boats, put them on the trailer and pack up cars with camping gear and lots of food! Once arrived tents were put up in the pouring rain, luckily the sun came out in the afternoon! Saturday was an early start with all cadets on the water by 9.30am, the day was spent practising their sailing skills whilst having fun exploring Roadford Lake with various treasure hunts and games. A great day spent on the water in the sun was followed by a barbeque in the evening with ultimate Frisbee and cricket tournaments organised by some of the volunteers. Sunday started off rainy but this didn’t stop the cadets getting on the water, mini races and hunt the palm tree (inflatable!) insured lots of capsizes and fun for the cadets, even an inflatable treasure chest was set afloat for cadets to round and collect rewards from! The day ended with the packing up of boats and tents and journeying home to Plymouth.
A big thanks to all the volunteers of the cadet programme, without them events like Roadford would never happen!
Further pictures from the weekend will be added to the RWYC Facebook page.
