Sailing Boat Since:

Since 2020

It was a very organic process, a classic West Country start to the OSTAR, TWOSTAR Race followed by a long conversation with Commodore Chris Arscot and Vice Commodore Adrian Grey of the Royal Western Yacht Club and boom… we had the makings of a race!

No one person, for years I read of the adventures of many sailors and have found them all inspiring.

Pete Goss and Mike Golding, any advice gratefully received.

Ha ha… social media, I have a love, hate relationship with it.

It’s not that I don’t like people, more that I am very comfortable in my own company.

I have a very seaworthy boat in Sagarmatha, I think I have already proved that, my one challenge to get to the start line is financing the preparation. Once I am over the start line it’s the same in any boat, keeping all the plates spinning on sticks!

The challenge of sailing singlehanded around the world, non stop.

Sailing singlehanded around the world with two stops.

Aaron Coplands’ Fanfare for the common man, there’s something very pure and honest about the Olympics, few sporting challenges measure up to that.

Having recently learned what “Dinghy” refers to on St. Helena…

Sailors don’t grow old, they just get a little dinghy!

what would you say to someone to encourage them to take up sailing?

As a child I was fascinated by water and learnt to swim at an early age, it wasn’t until my mid twenties that a work colleague invited me to go sailing, from then on I was hooked.
The saying goes that “you can lead a horse to water…”, you can encourage someone all you like but if something doesn’t resonate with them you are unlikely to succeed.
Water sports are many and varied, if time on the water appeals to you, it’s only a matter of time before you find your passion.
