Final Fling Dinghy Regatta Postponed
Monday 28th September 2020
Unfortunately this morning I have to make the disappointing
announcement that the Royal Western Yacht Club have come to the difficult decision to postpone the Allspars Final Fling 2020 scheduled for the weekend of 17/18th October 2020. As a club we did not take this decision lightly.
The team had been working hard organising the event which this year was set to include the Scorpion Pirate Party and Lark Nationals. However with the COVID-19 news and restrictions announced last week, we felt that in the interests of competitor and volunteer safety, and indeed overall event enjoyment, it is best to postpone the event for 2020.
The Scorpion and Lark Classes were looking forward to this years event and we very much hope to welcome them back in the near future at a time when we can run a safe event for a large number of dinghies and competitors. The Allspars Final Fling 2020 was expecting an entry of in excess of 100 boats and morally we cannot justify encouraging competitors to travel from all over the UK to this fantastic event during these challenging times. Those competitors who had paid and entered will be contacted via the Club Secretary to arrange entry fee refunds.
We would like to thank QAB Marina for their ongoing support towards running dinghy sailing and the Final Fling at the Royal Western Yacht Club. We were all hopeful that conditions would enable the event to happen and to be an on the water success.
Our event sponsors, Allspars, fully support this decision and we thank them for their continued support and sponsorship. They have suggested that the postponed Final Fling 2020 could be tweaked and run as a season opener so keep an eye on rywc.org and our social medial announcements for an event in April 2021. We can also confirm the dates for the Allspars Final Fling 2021 are 16th/17th of October so block out the diary now as we will be back!
Thank you for your understanding of this difficult decision.
