ROYAL WESTERN YACHT CLUB ANNOUNCES 2028 OSTAR & TWOSTAR RACE
The Royal Western Yacht Club is delighted to announce that the next edition of the prestigious OSTAR and TWOSTAR races will start from Plymouth Sound on 7 May 2028.
Widely regarded as one of the world’s most demanding offshore sailing challenges, the race attracts some of the finest short-handed sailors from around the globe as they take on a gruelling 3,000-mile North Atlantic crossing.
Race Director Chris Arscott said:
“The OSTAR and TWOSTAR are still considered to be among the toughest short-handed races in the world. It is the Everest of short-handed sailing. Competitors face a 3,000-mile passage across the North Atlantic in early summer, where they can expect multiple depressions, the possibility of ice around Newfoundland, very light winds on the Grand Banks, and a host of other challenges. It is a true test of seamanship, endurance and determination.”
The race is being organised in partnership with the Newport Yacht Club in the United States, with Norman Bailey serving as Assistant Race Director on the US side.
The Notice of Race is now available, and further information can be found on the Royal Western Yacht Club website. Competitors and interested parties are encouraged to visit the club’s Oceanic Racing section for race details, entry information and event updates.
