Overview:

The Club Racing season will provide series racing for Devon Yawl, IRC and YTC Classes.

The Club Racing Series runs throughout the summer (April – August) for the 1884 Twilight Series on Wednesday evenings and for the Autumn and Icicle Series on Sunday mornings (Sept – Dec)

The Autumn and Icicle series will be open to IRC and RYAYTC along with Devon Yawl classes. There will be the traditional committee boat starts in Plymouth Sound with finishes often happening off the club line so friends and family can cheer you in!

The 1884 Twilight series is an all new approach offering everyone the chance to compete with a reduced crew as there are no spinnakers allowed. With all boats competing on the same level, this will create some close racing whilst not having to struggle with finding ‘full’ crews.

Whether you sail double handed or with friends and family the challenge is the same, creating great competition whilst at the same time having fun with others who may not otherwise have the opportunity to take part.

Known as ‘beer-can racing’ in Sydney Harbour where this all started, it has been a hugely popular form of mid week racing with boats such as 25ft club cruisers all the way through to TP52’s taking part. It is also a popular feature within the Royal Cape Yacht club in South Africa. Nearer to home, Dublin Bay Yacht Club introducing this form of racing this season.

After racing, come and enjoy the atmosphere at the Royal Western Yacht Club where the random daily spot prizes will be presented to those taking part. The bar will also be offering a sailing supper, so come along after racing for some fun to finish off the evening!
